ਗੁੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ।। ਭਾਠੀ ਭਵਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਾ ਪੋਚਾ ਇਤੁ ਰਸਿ ਅਮਿਉ ਚੁਆਈਐ ।।1।।

Make spiritual wisdom your jaggery, and meditation your Madhuca Indica [Dhavae] flowers; let good deeds be the bark. Make faith thy furnace and love thy plaster and in this way the sweet Nectar is distilled.

ਖਿਨੁ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਛਮਿ ਛਾਏ ਜਿਉ ਚਕੁ ਕੁਮਿ੍ਆਰਿ ਭਵਾਇਆ ।।

One moment, they are facing east, and the next instant, they are facing west; they continue spinning around, like the potter's wheel.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਾਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਅਣੀਆਲੇ ਅਣੀਆ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ।।

The Bani of the Lord's Love is the pointed arrow, which has pierced my mind, O Lord King.

ਕੋਲੂ ਚਰਖਾ ਚਕੀ ਚਕੁ।।

The oil-press, the spinning wheel, the quern, the potter's wheel.

ਥਲ ਵਾਰੋਲੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਨੰਤੁ ।।

Desert, whirlwinds are many and endless.

ਲਾਟੂ ਮਾਧਾਣੀਆ ਅਨਗਾਹ ।।

the spinning tops, the churning-staves, the threshers.

ਕੁੰਭੇ ਬਧਾ ਜਲੁ ਰਹੈ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਕੁੰਭੁ ਨ ਹੋਇ ।।

As the water remains confined in a pitcher, but the pitcher cannot be shaped without water,

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰੁ ਸਰੀਰ ਕਾ ਇਕੁ ਰਥੁ ਇਕੁ ਰਥਵਾਹੁ ।।

O Nanak, the prime human body has one chariot [body] and one charioteer [mind].

ਧਰਿ ਤਾਰਾਜੂ ਤੋਲੀਐ ਨਿਵੈ ਸੁ ਗਉਰਾ ਹੋਇ।।

When something is placed on the balancing scale and weighed, the side which descends is heavier.

ਹਮ ਘਰਿ ਸੂਤੁ ਤਨਹਿ ਨਿਤ ਤਾਨਾ ਕੰਠਿ ਜਨੇਊ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ।।

In my house, I daily stretching-threads, while you wear the [janeu] 5 cotton threads around your neck.
