ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੈ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ।।

Just as the darkness is lit up by the lamp.

ਬਿਨੁ ਤਕੜੀ ਤੋਲੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ।।

Without a scale, He weighs the universe.

ਦੁਇ ਪੁੜ ਚਕੀ ਜੋੜਿ ਕੈ ਪੀਸਣ ਆਇ ਬਹਿਠੁ ।। ਜੋ ਦਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਸੁ ਉਬਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਜਬੁ ਡਿਠੁ ।।1।।

Joining together both the quern-stones people come and sit down to grind grains. Those kernels which remain attached to the central axle, are saved Nanak has seen a wonderful thing.

ਧਰਿ ਤਾਰਾਜੀ ਅੰਬਰੁ ਤੋਲੀ ਪਿਛੈ ਟੰਕੁ ਚੜਾਈ ।।

By placing the skies in the scale, were I to weight it with a mere tiny-weight mere copper coin put in the hind pan;

ਲਕੀ ਕਾਸੇ ਹਥੀ ਫੁੰਮਣ ਅਗੋ ਪਿਛੀ ਜਾਹੀ ।।

With their begging bowls hanging from their waists, and their fly-brushes in their hands, they walk along in single file.

ਅਨਿਕ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਪਹਿਰਾਇਆ ਜਿਉ ਡਰਨਾ ਖੇਤ ਮਾਹਿ ਡਰਾਇਆ ।।2।।

They wear all sorts of beautiful robes, but they are still just scarecrows in the field, frightening away the birds. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਤਿਨਿ ਦੀਆ ਤਾਲਾ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਉਪਾਈ ।।

Whose Home it is, has put the lock to it, and gives the key to the Guru.

ਡੋਲੁ ਬਧਾ ਕਸਿ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਆਕਾਸਿ ਪਤਾਲਾ ।।6।।

Like a well-bucket firmly tied to the rope you are now in the sky, and now in the under-world.

ਲਾਗੀ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਜਾਨੈ ਪੀਰ ।। ਰਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਅਨੀਆਲੇ ਤੀਰ ।।1।।

He alone knows it, who feels the pain of such love; Lord's devotional worship are very sharp pointed arrows!

ਕੁੰਜੀ ਕੁਲਫੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਕਰਤੇ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਲਾਈ ।।1।।

He made the breath of life the watchman, with lock and key to protect it; the Creator did this in no time at all.
