ਪਸੂ-ਪੰਛੀ (Animals-Birds)

ਫੂਲੁ ਭਵਰਿ ਜਲੁ ਮੀਨਿ ਬਿਗਾਰਿਓ ॥

The black bee has spoiled the flower and fish the water.

ਮੈਲਾਗਰ ਬੇਰ੍ਹੇ ਹੈ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਾ ॥

The snakes encircle the sandalwood trees.

ਸੁਆਨ ਪੂਛ ਜਿਉ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਸੂਧੋ ਕਹਿਓ ਨ ਕਾਨ ਧਰੈ ॥

Like a dog's tail, it cannot be straightened; it will not listen to what I tell it.

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਟੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ॥

Without the Lord, I find no peace, O my soul; I am like the pied-cuckoo, crying out without the raindrops.

ਜਿਉ ਪੰਖੀ ਕਪੋਤਿ ਆਪੁ ਬਨਾ੍ਇਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦੁੜੀਏ ਤਿਉ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸਭਿ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲੇ ਰਾਮ ॥

Like the birds, which itself falls into the trap, O my soul, all the self-willed [manmukh] fall under the influence of death.

ਮੋਰੀ ਰੁਣ ਝੁਣ ਲਾਇਆ ਭੈਣੇ ਸਾਵਣੁ ਆਇਆ ॥

The peacocks are singing so sweetly, O sister; the rainy season of Saawan [July-August] has come.

ਕੁਹਕਨਿ ਕੋਕਿਲਾ ਤਰਲ ਜੁਆਣੀ ॥

You coo like a cuckoo, and your youthful beauty is alluring.

ਹੋਛੀ ਮਤਿ ਭਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਹੋਛਾ ਗੁੜੁ ਸਾ ਮਖੀ ਖਾਇਆ ॥

Due to shallow intellect, the mind becomes shallow, as the fly eats jaggery [stuck along jaggery and died].

ਹੰਸਾ ਵੇਖਿ ਤਰੰਦਿਆ ਬਗਾਂ ਭਿ ਆਯਾ ਚਾਉ ॥

Seeing the swans swimming, the herons became desirous to swim.

ਵਰਮੀ ਮਾਰੀ ਸਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਰੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਿਗੁਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥

By hitting [with sticks] the snake's hole, the snake is not killed; it is just like doing deeds without a Guru.
