ਬਿਨ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕੂਕਰ ਹਰਕਾਇਆ ॥

Without meditating in remembrance of the Lord, one is like a mad dog.

ਓਹੁ ਤੇਲੀ ਸੰਦਾ ਬਲਦੁ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਭਲਕੇ ਉਠਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਜੋਇਆ ॥

He is like the bullock of an oilman, daily in the morning when he rises God yokes him.

ਚਿੜੀ ਚੁਹਕੀ ਪਹੁ ਫੁਟੀ ਵਗਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਤਰੰਗ ॥

With the chirping of the sparrow and breaking of dawn, many currents arise in the man.

ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਸਭ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਨਿ ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤੀ ਬਣਿਆ ॥

He Himself is the high and the low, the ant and the elephant.

ਜਿਥੈ ਡਿਠਾ ਮਿਰਤਕੋ ਇਲ ਬਹਿਠੀ ਆਇ ॥

Wherever sees a dead body, the vulture lands down there.

ਚੜਿ ਕੈ ਘੋੜੜੈ ਕੁੰਦੈ ਪਕੜਹਿ ਖੁੰਡੀ ਦੀ ਖੇਡਾਰੀ ॥

Can they mount horses and handle guns? Those who know only the game of stick and ball.

ਹੰਸਾ ਸੇਤੀ ਚਿਤੁ ਉਲਾਸਹਿ ਕੁਕੜ ਦੀ ਓਡਾਰੀ ।।2।।

They wish to fly along swans, but their flight is as much as of cocks?

ਤੂੰ ਪਿੰਜਰੁ ਹਉ ਸੂਅਟਾ ਤੋਰ ॥ ਜਮੁ ਮੰਜਾਰੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਮੋਰ ॥

You are the cage, and I am Your parrot. So, what can the cat of death do to me?

ਬਨ ਕਾ ਮਿਰਗੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸਭੁ ਹੋਗੁ ॥

Then all the deer of the forest would be liberated.

ਹਰੀ ਅੰਗੂਰੀ ਗਦਹਾ ਚਰੈ ॥

The donkey grazes upon the green grass;
