If I were to become a snake, living in the ground, the Word [Shabad] would still dwell in my mind, and my fears would go away.
As a cow shows love to her strayed calf on meeting it.
The pied-cuckoo loves the rainwater, falling in torrents;
The ruddy-shelduck loves the sun shining in her face.
The calf loves to suck [mother's] milk with mouth.
If we feed a serpent upon much milk, on investigation, only poison shall come out of it.
By tasting the Word [Shabad] Nectar, peacock of my mind has begun to chirp.
In so many incarnations, you were a worm and a moth; in so many incarnations, you were an elephant, a fish and a deer. In so many incarnations, you were a bird and a snake. In so many incarnations, you were a horse and yoked as an ox.
But the dog does not know the One who has bestowed these.
It would be like an imaginary rider on a decorated horse, or a eunuch caressing a woman. ||1|| It would be like tying up an ox and trying to milk it, or riding a cow to chase a tiger. ||2|| It would be like taking a sheep and worshipping it as the wish fulfilling cow.
