ਪਸੂ-ਪੰਛੀ (Animals-Birds)

ਕੰਚਨ ਕੇ ਕੋਟ ਦਤੁ ਕਰੀ ਬਹੁ ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਦਾਨੁ ॥

If I made a donation of castles of gold, and gave lots of fine horses and wondrous elephants in charity.

ਬਿਲਪ ਕਰੇ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ॥

It bewails like the pied-cuckoo.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਸਦਾ ਬਗੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਲਾਈ ॥

The self-willed [manmukh] shall always be filthy crane, smeared with the filth of ego.

ਹਕੁ ਪਰਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਉਸੁ ਸੂਅਰ ਉਸੁ ਗਾਇ ॥

To take what rightfully belongs to another, is like a Muslim eating pork pig meat or a Hindu eating beef cow meat.

ਸੀਹਾ ਬਾਜਾ ਚਰਗਾ ਕੁਹੀਆ ਏਨਾ ਖਵਾਲੇ ਘਾਹ ॥

Meat eating tigers, hawks, saker-falcons and sparrow-hawk, the Lord could make them eat grass.

ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋਇ ਅਠੂਹਿਆ ਨਾਗੀ ਲਗੈ ਜਇ ।।

If one a charmer of scorpions and goes to handle snakes.

ਵੁਠੈ ਘਾਹੁ ਚਰਹਿ ਨਿਤਿ ਸੁਰਹੀ ਸਾ ਧਨ ਦਹੀ ਵਿਲੋਵੈ ॥

When it rains grass grows up the cows always graze on it and the housewife churn the curd of their milk.

ਹਰਣੀ ਹੋਵਾ ਬਨਿ ਬਸਾ ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲ ਚੁਣਿ ਖਾਉ ॥

What if I were to become a deer, and live in the forest, picking and eating fruits and roots.

ਕੋਕਿਲ ਹੋਵਾ ਅੰਬਿ ਬਸਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਬਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

If I were to become a cuckoo, living in a mango tree, in stillness I would contemplate on the Word [Shabad].

ਮਛੁਲੀ ਹੋਵਾ ਜਲਿ ਬਸਾ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਰਿ ॥

If I were to become a fish, living in the water, I would still remember the Lord, who cares over all beings and creatures.
