ਮਛਰ ਡੰਗ ਸਾਇਰ ਭਰ ਸੁਭਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

The ponds are filled to brims; the mosquitoes bite and stings me without the Lord, how can she find peace?

ਸੁਆਨ ਸਿਆਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

Dogs and jackals are dyed in Maya.

ਬੰਤਰ ਚੀਤੇ ਅਰੁ ਸਿੰਘਾਤਾ ॥

Similarly, the monkeys, leopards and lions [all dyed in Maya].

ਮਾਂਜਾਰ ਗਾਡਰ ਅਰੁ ਲੂਬਰਾ ॥

Cats, sheep and foxes [are also dyed in Maya].

ਜਬ ਹੀ ਸਿਆਰੁ ਸਿੰਘ ਕਉ ਖਾਇ ॥

When the jackal eats the tiger.

ਗਰੁੜ ਚੜੇ੍ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਆਇਲਾ ।।

The Lord of the Universe came, mounted on the Indian Roller.

ਮੇਘ ਸਮੈ ਮੋਰ ਨਿਰਤਿਕਾਰ ॥ ਚੰਦ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਿਗਸਹਿ ਕਉਲਾਰ ॥

ਜੈਸੇ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਓ ਭੇਦੁ ॥ ਤਨਿ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਢੂਢੈ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸੁ ॥

The deer does not know the secret; the musk is within its own body, but it searches for it outside.

ਊਹੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿਓ ਊਹਾ ਲੇ ਧਰਿਓ ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਸਾ ਮਾਸ ਦੇਤ ਝਾਟੁਲੀ ।।

ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਮੋਰ ਬੋਲਤ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਸੁਨਿ ਘਨਿਹਰ ਕੀ ਘੋਰ ॥

The pied-cuckoo and the peacocks sing day and night, hearing the thunder in the clouds.
