ਪਸੂ-ਪੰਛੀ (Animals-Birds)

ਊਂਦਰ ਦੂੰਦਰ ਪਾਸਿ ਧਰੀਜੈ ॥

Silence the mouse [of desires] noising around and within you.

ਜਿਉ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥

As the deer's ears are attuned to the sound of the pitcher-drum.

ਜੈਸੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਮੁਰਗਾਈ ਨੈ ਸਾਣੇ ॥

As a lotus-flower remains unaffected in water, as also a duck swims and becomes not wet.

ਸਰਵਰ ਹੰਸ ਧੁਰੇ ਹੀ ਮੇਲਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਏਵੈ ਭਾਣਾ ॥ ਸਰਵਰ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਮੋਤੀ ਸੋ ਹੰਸਾ ਕਾ ਖਾਣਾ ॥

The Union between the lake (Satguru) and the swan (Gurmukh) is ordained from the very beginning. So, it please the Lord. In the lake are the jewels and pearls. They are the feed of the swans.

ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਤਦੂਐ ਬਾਂਧਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿਓ ਮੋਖ ਮੁਖਨੇ ॥

When the elephant caught by the octopus in water, it remembered and chanted God’s name and got freed.

ਅਪਨਾ ਆਪੁ ਤੂ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਸਿ ਪਿਸਨ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਜਿਉ ਰੇ ।।

You can never change your own desiress, like the love of the tick for blood.

ਦਾਦਰ ਤੂ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਨਸਿ ਰੇ ॥

O frog, you will never know.

ਮਾਗਰਮਛੁ ਫਹਾਈਐ ਕੁੰਡੀ ਜਾਲੁ ਵਤਾਇ ।।

The crocodile is caught by throwing the hooked noose.

ਰਥੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਛਾਇਆ ਧਨ ਤਾਕੈ ਟੀਡੁ ਲਵੈ ਮੰਝਿ ਬਾਰੇ ।।

His chariot moves on, and the soul-bride seeks shade; the grasshoper are chirping in the forest.

ਭਵਰੁ ਭਵੰਤਾ ਫੂਲੀ ਡਾਲੀ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਾ ਮਰੁ ਮਾਏ ॥

The bumble bee is buzzing around the flowering branches; but how can I survive? I am dying, O my mother!
