ਪਸੂ-ਪੰਛੀ (Animals-Birds)

ਅਖੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕਸਾਈਆ ਜਿਉ ਬਿਲਕ ਮਸਾਈ ਰਾਮ ॥

My eyes are drawn towards His Love, like the cat towards the mouse.

ਚੀਤਿ ਚਿਤਵਉ ਮਿਟੁ ਅੰਧਾਰੇ ਜਿਉ ਆਸ ਚਕਵੀ ਦਿਨੁ ਚਰੈ ॥

In my consciousness I remember You, and the darkness is dispelled, like the she ruddy-shelduck [chakvi], which longs to see the dawn.

ਮਾਨਸੁ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਮੂਸਾ ਕੀਨੋ ਮੀਚੁ ਬਿਲਈਆ ਖਈਹੈ ਰੇ ॥

The Lord has made the poor man a mouse, and the cat of Death is eating him up.

ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਨ ਕਤ ਜਾਈਐ ਜਉ ਜੰਬੁਕੁ ਗ੍ਰਾਸੈ ॥

What use of taking refuse from a lion, if one is to be eaten by a jackal?

ਏਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਜਲ ਕਾਰਨੇ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

For the sake of a single rain-drop, the pied-cuckoo suffers in pain.

ਬਰਦ ਚਢੇ ਡਉਰੂ ਢਮਕਾਵੈ ॥

He rides on ox beats the pellet drum.

ਗਊ ਕਉ ਚਾਰੇ ਸਾਰਦੂਲੁ ॥

The tiger grazes the cows.

ਬਕਰੀ ਕਉ ਹਸਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੇ ॥

The elephant nurses the goat.

ਕੁਦਮ ਕਰੈ ਗਾਡਰ ਜਿਉ ਛੇਲ ॥

Like a baby lamb plays with mother sheep.

ਦਸ ਬਿਘਿਆੜੀ ਲਈ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ।।

The ten she-wolves of senses, He has driven away.
