ਪਸੂ-ਪੰਛੀ (Animals-Birds)

ਗਊ ਭੈਸ ਮਗਉ ਲਾਵੇਰੀ ॥ ਇਕ ਤਾਜਨਿ ਤੁਰੀ ਚੰਗੇਰੀ ॥

I beg of You, a milk cow and buffalo, and a fine Turkestani horse.

ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਚਿਤਵਤ ਬਰਸਤ ਮੇਂਹ ॥

The pied-cuckoo longs for the rain to fall.

ਅਨਿਕ ਸੂਖ ਚਕਵੀ ਨਹੀ ਚਾਹਤ ਅਨਦ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੇਖਿ ਦੇਂਹ ॥

The ruddy-shelduck (chakvi) does not desire many comforts, but it is filled with bliss upon seeing the day.

ਡੀਹਰ ਨਿਆਈ ਮੋਹਿ ਫਾਕਿਓ ਰੇ ॥

Like fish entangled in [hook of] greed.

ਜਲ ਕੀ ਮਾਛੁਲੀ ਚਰੈ ਖਜੂਰਿ ॥

This amounts to saying that the fish of water is up climbing a date-tree.

ਬਕਰੀ ਸਿੰਘੁ ਇਕਤੈ ਥਾਇ ਰਾਖੇ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਦੂਰਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥

The sheep and the lions are kept in one place; O mortal, meditate on the Lord, and your doubts and fears shall be removed.

ਕਾਲੀ ਕੋਇਲ ਤੂ ਕਿਤ ਗੁਨ ਕਾਲੀ ॥ ਅਪਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕੇ ਹਉ ਬਿਰਹੈ ਜਾਲੀ ॥

O black cuckoo, what qualities have made you black? “I have been burnt by separation from my Beloved.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਤ ਕਿਰਤ ਕੇ ਬਾਧੇ ਜਿਉ ਤੇਲੀ ਬਲਦ ਭਵੰਦੇ ॥

Burnt by desire and bound by their past deeds they go rounds and rounds [cycle of death and birth] like the oilman's ox.

ਪਾਇਆ ਵੇੜੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਰਬ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਾ ॥

Maya [desires], the snake, holds all in her coils.

ਮਨ ਖੁਟਹਰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਹੀ ਬਿਸਾਸੁ ਤੂ ਮਹਾ ਉਦਮਾਦਾ ॥ ਖਰ ਕਾ ਪੈਖਰੁ ਤਉ ਛੁਟੈ ਜਉ ਊਪਰਿ ਲਾਦਾ ॥

O vicious mind, no faith can be placed in you; you are totally intoxicated. The feet-chain of the donkey is removed, after the load is placed on his back.
