ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ (Vegetation)

ਤੁਮੀ ਤੁਮਾ ਵਿਸੁ ਅਕੁ ਧਤੂਰਾ ਨਿਮੁ ਫਲੁ ।।

Bitter melon, swallow-wort, thorn-apple and margosa (nimm) fruit- all are bitter fruits.

ਕਬ ਚੰਦਨਿ ਕਬ ਅਕਿ ਡਾਲਿ ਕਬ ਉਚੀ ਪਰੀਤਿ ।।

Sometimes it is perched on the sandalwood tree, and sometimes it is on the branch of the poisonous swallow-wort. Sometimes, it soars through the heavens.

ਮੋਹਿ ਦਾਸਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕੋ ।। ਧਾਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਖਾਨਾ ।।

I am the slave of my Lord. I eat rice grains whatever given to me in charity by the Lord.

ਜਾਸੁ ਜਪਤ ਕਮਲੁ ਸੀਧਾ ਹੋਇ ||7||

Meditating on Him, the heart-lotus is turned upright. ||7||

ਖਖੜੀਆ ਸੁਹਾਵੀਆ ਲਗੜੀਆ ਅਕ ਕੰਠਿ ।।

The fruit of the swallow-wort plant looks beautiful, attached to the branch of the tree;

ਆਸ ਪਾਸ ਘਨ ਤੁਰਸੀ ਕਾ ਬਿਰਵਾ ਮਾਝ ਬਨਾ ਰਸਿ ਗਾਊਂ ਰੇ ।।

All around, there are thick trees of sweet basil, and there in the midst of the forest, the Lord is singing with joy.

ਬਟਕ ਬੀਜ ਮਹਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਜਾ ਕੋ ਤੀਨਿ ਲੋਕ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ||3||

As the banyan tree is contained in the seed, His expanse spreads across the three worlds. ||3||

ਮੇਰੇ ਰਮਈਏ ਰੰਗੁ ਮਜੀਠ ਕਾ ਕਹੁ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਚਮਾਰ ।।

The color of my Lord's Love, however, is permanent, like the dye of the madder plant. So says Ravi Daas, the tanner.

ਗੁੜੁ ਕਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਧਾਵੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ।।

Make spiritual wisdom molasses, meditation your Madhuka Indica flowers; let good deeds be the fermenting bark.

ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਰਹਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਉਲਾ ।।

I remain detached [though living in the world], like the lotus flower upon the water.
